Kaduna - Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has said he will never join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the leading opposition has collapsed.

El-Rufai made this known in an exclusive interview on AriseTV on Monday, February 24. He said he had decided long ago that he could not join the PDP. According to him, PDP has become the worst. However, he does not rule out leaving the APC.

El-Rufai hints at dumping the APC

He said he would look for another political platform to join if the All Progressives Congress (APC) refuses to return to its founding principles and progressive values. The former governor maintained that he would look for a party whose principles aligned with his own.

  • El-Rufai, who noted that he was still a member of the ruling APC, stated that he had not left the party but the party had left him. He stressed that he and many other members have been sidelined from the party's affairs.

    The former governor made this known while speaking on AriseTV on Monday, February 24, which was monitored by Legit.ng, maintaining that he remained a founding member of the ruling APC and was only speaking against the party's leadership.

    According to El-Rufai, the APC leadership has not constituted the National Executive Council meeting (NEC), which is the highest governing body of the party in the last two years, and this was against the ideals of the founding members of the party.

    Legit.ng recalled that the former governor recently made headlines when he alleged that President Bola Tinubu and the APC had abandoned the promises they made to Nigerians and he could no longer understand the party anymore.

    El-Rufai's comment generated reactions from Nigerians with many predicting his possible out of the APC. However, during the interview, the former governor did not rule out the chances of dumping the APC, should the party fail to return to its founding principles and guidelines.

    Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu's media aide Daniel Bwala has described the recent political activities of the former Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as mere complaints.

    The presidential aide noted that the former governor is still a member of the APC and his activities should not be considered a political move.

    El-Rufai recently made headlines after alleging that President Tinubu has deviated from the promises APC made to Nigerians.
